What does it mean to receive love?

In my opinion, it means you are being presented with the concept of love regularly but deep down, you don't have the emotional capacity to fully accept it. Sometimes you don't really let it dwell within your spirit. It means that love has looked different from season to season in your life. Now, you don't even know what real love looks or feels like. I mean, real love, unconditional love, the kind of love that requires a sacrifice for your own good. This kind of love is found with God.

Sometimes we don't realize how much God really loves us. Trust me, I get it. When you think you've lost your value and self-worth because of the way other people "loved" you, it can be really hard to believe in God's love. You have to work with God--and most likely a therapist-- to break down the barriers and make room for His love. It takes time. Oh, and by the way, it will not be easy.

I want to ask you a question. Have you ever noticed that healing brings forth maturity and growth? When you finally stop letting the enemy and your past control what you think about you, and how you feel about you, you make room for God to work in you. Once God gets to work in you, He will start to show you how special you are to Him. Spending time in His presence will have that effect on you, and after a while, you'll start seeing yourself the way He sees you.

Seriously! Even your past will look differently. You'll stop seeing so much trauma and start seeing how God has redeemed you. All those attacks and storms will start to make sense once He reveals just how special you truly are to Him. When you look back at your life, you'll start to see the enemy in all the people that abused you. You'll see the enemy in the people that told you you'd never amount to anything. Because of God's love, you will see that the enemy had to attack you that way in order to stop you from becoming and believing you are a son or daughter of the Most High King. You are royalty! God thinks so highly of you and He has created you with a purpose for a purpose.

When you start seeing you the way God sees you, it becomes easier to forgive that person that hurt you. Yes, I said it! Forgive them! For the sake of your mental health, please forgive them.

The Bible says "Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others". -Colossians 3:13

Forgiveness is not going to come easily for you, I know. The trauma you've endured may be hard to forgive right away, just please, at some point in your life forgive them. You need to be free of that burden, because the heaviness in your heart does not belong there. Give it to God, let Him heal you; let Him free you; let Him comfort you; most importantly, let Him love you. Trust Him enough to fight the rest of your battles. When you forgive the people who have mistreated you, you really begin making room for God's love to take over. Then you will truly start to receive love. It's a life changing kind of love, and it is such a beautiful thing.
